Mercer Island Cabin

The owners of this home have a very special connection to this place. Situated on the waterfront on Mercer Island, they had owned this property for many decades, renting it out to lucky patrons who enjoyed the sparkling water views and surrounding forest. When it came time to downsize from their larger residence next door, we were honored to assist them in gutting and renovating this cabin to be their new forever home for the next phase of their lives.

Curating and taking what we could from their main residence, they pared down their belongings and brought the most cherished pieces. The A-frame was essentially designed around the graceful Steinway overlooking Lake Washington. A new cherry-wrapped stairwell serves a dual purpose as a gallery for their prolific art collection, and a compact gourmet kitchen was installed for dinner parties that hold ten to twelve guests at a time.

This waterfront cabin is a richly layered exhibit of their lives, the places they’ve traveled, and their hobbies. Every detail of the A-frame was carefully designed to be both functional and visually striking, from the concealed coat closet and under-stair wine cellar to the custom cabinetry showcasing handmade, curated ceramics.
