This house in Daniel Island, SC was an exercise in traditional design meets modern living. We drew inspiration from Lowcountry, Acadian, and colonial Caribbean styles, but ultimately developed something that spoke to us and fits perfectly within the site. The front facade has all the typical elements of a gracious Southern home- a wide front porch, tall stately windows, and formal shutters. The rear of the house relaxes a bit in contrast with a sunken lounge, asymmetrical design, and pool bar. It’s nestled and rambling between large, protected oaks that drip with moss and house owls and other wildlife.
Above all else, the house is meant to be communal with many deep porches and decks for gatherings with friends and family. Many paths and gracious, tropical breezeways lead to the backyard where the pool deck frames views of the marshes beyond. A true “liveable” house, this is a family home through and through where welcoming sitting areas are plentiful and a drink fridge is always nearby.
